‘Unification of Bulgaria in 1885’ Department
The ‘Unification of Bulgaria in 1885’ Department at the Regional History Museum – Plovdiv researches, preserves and presents the history of Eastern Rumelia, the preparation and realization of the Unification with the Principality of Bulgaria, as well as the Serbo-Bulgarian War. The department’s main task is to popularize the significance of the Unification as a national symbol through a permanent exsposure and temporary exhibitions, educational activities and scholarly initiatives.
‘Bulgarian Lands 15th – 19th Century’ Department
The ‘Bulgarian Lands 15th–19th Century’ Department at the Regional History Museum – Plovdiv researches, preserves and presents the history of the Bulgarian lands under Ottoman rule, with a special focus on daily life, economic activities, urban and rural culture. Through the exposure of ‘Bulgarian Revival’, as well as educational initiatives and scholarly work, the department popularizes the processes of social development and the formation of the National Liberation Movement during the Bulgarian Revival period.
‘Bulgarian Book Publishing’ Department
The ‘Bulgarian Book Publishing’ Department at the Regional History Museum – Plovdiv searches for, preserves, studies and popularizes cultural heritage related to Bulgarian book publishing and education from the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Through selected cultural artifacts and various initiatives, the department demonstrates the significance of the book as a carrier of knowledge, cultural memory and national identity.
‘Modern and Contemporary History’ Department
The ‘Modern and Contemporary History’ Department conducts collecting and researching activities dedicated to the political, social and cultural development of Bulgaria from the Liberation to the most recent period. The temporary exhibition ‘The Soul of the Japanese Doll’ is located at 14 Angel Bukoreshtliev Street, while work is underway to establish a permanent exposure dedicated to the history of Plovdiv and the region during the period 1886 – 1945.
