On 22 September, the National ‘Hristo G. Danov’ Awards for Contribution to Bulgarian Literary Culture were presented in the courtyard of the Hristo G. Danov House Museum in the Old Town of Plovdiv.

The awards are granted through a two-round competition. The members of the jury are appointed by order of the Minister of Culture and are announced at the award ceremony. Eight awards are presented in the following categories:

  • Bulgarian Publishing House;
  • Author of Bulgarian Fiction;
  • Translator of Fiction;
  • Author in the Field of the Humanities;
  • Author of a Children’s Publication;
  • Book Artist or Book Design and Layout;
  • Promotion of the Bulgarian Book;
  • Library and Information Services.

Each year, a Grand Prize for Overall Contribution to National Literary Culture is also awarded. It is determined by the Minister of Culture, who announces and personally presents it during the ceremonial event.

The laureates receive a diploma, a small sculpture titled ‘The Owl’ by artist Diana Raynova and a monetary prize, while the nominees are awarded a diploma.

The event is organised by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Municipality of Plovdiv.
