Conferences

The Regional Historical Museum – Plovdiv organizes a series of scientific forums and conferences with the aim of researching and popularizing the historical past of Plovdiv and the contribution of Plovdiv’s figures to the national history of Bulgaria.

The Regional Historical Museum – Plovdiv, the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and Plovdiv Municipality are organizing a National Scientific Conference on the topic ‘In the Spiral of Time: People, Ideas, Spaces and Events’. The forum will be held on October 13, 14, and 15 in Plovdiv. The venue for the sessions is the ‘Unification’ Hall at 1 Saedinenie Square. More than 50 researchers from various scientific and cultural organizations across Bulgaria are participating in the conference.

During the forum, the books ‘Last of His Kind. Dr. Georgi Valkovich (1833-1892)’ by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aleka Strezova and ‘Dreamed of and Terrifying: Foreign Women and Men in Bulgarian Literature of the Long 19th Century’ by Nikolay Aretov will also be presented. With this conference and the volume of proceedings, which will be printed by the end of the year, the organizers and long-standing collaborators in historical research and the popularization of historical knowledge pay tribute to the anniversary of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vasilka Tankova.

The Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), the Regional Historical Museum – Plovdiv and Plovdiv Municipality are organizing a National Scientific Conference ‘Plovdiv during the Second Half of the 19th and 20th Centuries – Society, Personalities, Local Government’.

The conference will be held under the patronage of Engineer Ivan Totev – Mayor of Plovdiv Municipality. The forum will take place on June 8 and 9, 2017, in the ‘Unification’ Hall of the Regional Historical Museum at 1 Saedinenie Square.

According to the submitted applications, 38 researchers of Plovdiv’s history from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, university centers, archives, libraries and museums will take part in the scientific meeting.

Each paper makes a scientific contribution to important issues from the history of Plovdiv during the 19th and 20th centuries. The conference is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great Plovdiv public figure Nedko Kableshkov.

As part of the program of the National Committee for the Commemoration of the 130th Anniversary of the Unification of Bulgaria, chaired by Mr. Rosen Plevneliev – President of the Republic of Bulgaria, a national scientific conference on the topic: ‘The Unification of Bulgaria in 1885 – 130 Years Later’ will be held on June 25 and 26, 2015, in the ‘Unification’ Hall of the Regional Historical Museum – Plovdiv. The program includes over 30 academic papers from researchers at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, university centers in Sofia, Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo, Shumen and Blagoevgrad, museum specialists, experts and history teachers in Bulgarian schools. The aim of the conference is to report newly discovered facts about the Unification of Bulgaria, viewed through the lens of researchers 130 years after the events. On June 25, starting at 6:15 PM, also in the ‘Unification’ Hall, the volume of proceedings from the national scientific conference ‘Academic Ivan Evstratiev Geshov (1849 – 1924) – Statesman, Public Figure and Scholar, Maecenas of Bulgarian Science and Culture’, which took place last November, will also be presented.

On November 6 and 7, 2014, the national scientific conference ‘Academic Ivan Evstratiev Geshov (1849 – 1924) – Statesman, Public Figure and Scholar, Maecenas of Bulgarian Science and Culture’ will be held in the ‘Unification’ Hall of the Regional Historical Museum – Plovdiv.

The organizers of the event are: the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Regional Academic Center – Plovdiv, the Regional Historical Museum – Plovdiv and Plovdiv Municipality.

The conference is dedicated to Ivan Evstratiev Geshov – one of the two natives of Plovdiv who served as Prime Ministers of Bulgaria.

Over 30 historians from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, university centers, archives and museums in Bulgaria will present their papers.

The forum will be held on October 25, 2012, and is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Dimitar Petrov Kudoglu, the greatest donor to Bulgarian healthcare. The scientific director is Professor Vasilka Tankova – head of the ‘Modern Bulgarian History’ section at the Institute for Historical Studies.
