On 26 March at 12:00 PM in the ‘Unification’ Hall of the Regional History Museum – Plovdiv, the exhibition ‘They Were’ will be officially opened. The event is organized jointly with the Thracian Society ‘Voyvoda Rusi Slavov’ – Plovdiv and the Union of Reserve Officers and Sergeants – Municipal Council Plovdiv, on the occasion of 26 March – the Day of Thrace and the holiday of the Second Bulgarian Army, dedicated to the 112th anniversary of the capture of the Adrianople Fortress.

The exhibition presents bladed weapons and firearms, orders, military maps, photographs, documents and other artefacts preserved in the collection of the Thracian Society ‘Voyvoda Rusi Slavov’. Among the exhibits special attention is drawn to the Orders of Bravery, awarded for exceptional valour and heroism, as well as rare historical maps illustrating the territorial changes of Bulgaria after the wars and the international treaties at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.

The Thracian Society ‘Voyvoda Rusi Slavov’ is one of the oldest and most active Thracian organizations in Bulgaria. Founded in 1879, it unites the descendants of Thracian Bulgarians, preserves the historical memory of their struggle and protects the national cultural heritage. Over the years, the society has played a significant role in preserving Thracian identity, organizing commemorative events, and collecting valuable historical artefacts.

The exhibition ‘They Were’ offers visitors the opportunity to experience the rich military and cultural heritage of the Thracian Bulgarians, to learn more about their contribution to Bulgarian military history and to honour the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the national ideal.

You are warmly invited to the Regional History Museum – Plovdiv!
