The National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences presents the ‘resurrected’ manuscript of Petar Bogdan — On the Antiquity of the Fatherland and on the Bulgarian Deeds at the Regional History Museum – Plovdiv.

The event is initiated and held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Mr. Rumen Radev.
With the kind cooperation of the state authorities of the Republic of Italy, the management of the Gallerie Estensi and the Municipality of Modena, on May 10, 2024, the Bulgarian state, represented by the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, received as a donation a certified reproduction of the manuscript of Petar Bogdan.
The presentation of the manuscript is accompanied by two poster exhibitions:
- ‘On the Antiquity of the Fatherland and on the Bulgarian Deeds’ – dedicated to the history of Petar Bogdan’s manuscript, organized and created by the National Archaeological Institute with Museum. The author of the exhibition and translator of the manuscript is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tsvetan Vasilev of the Department of Classical Philology at Sofia University.
- ‘Catholics in Bulgaria, 17th–20th Century’ – presenting the contribution of the Catholic community to preserving the spirit of freedom and national consciousness in the Bulgarian lands, as well as to the restoration of Bulgarian statehood. The authors are Assoc. Prof. Dr. Radoslav Spasov and Dr. Boyana Mincheva from the National Library „Sts. Cyril and Methodius“.
Petar Bogdan is the first Bulgarian Catholic Archbishop. His manuscript is the first historical treatise devoted to Bulgaria, written during the period preceding the Bulgarian National Revival. It examines the Christian past and present of the Bulgarian lands with a view toward the future — one of the most valuable written monuments in Bulgarian history.
